What size battery do I need?

Yes. On tariffs like Octopus Agile, Go, or Intelligent, electricity costs as little as 7p/kWh between midnight and 6am. Your battery charges overnight at this rate and discharges during daytime/evening peak rates of 25-30p/kWh. The difference (approximately 18-23p/kWh) on a daily 10kWh battery cycle creates savings of £600-800/year from tariff arbitrage alone, on top of solar self-consumption savings.

Where can a battery be installed in my home?

The most common locations: garage (preferred — easy ventilation and service access), utility room on an external wall, or outdoor weatherproof cabinet (for bungalows without garages). Under PAS 63100:2024, batteries cannot be installed in loft spaces, bedrooms, under stairs, or main living areas. We assess your property and recommend the best location at the survey.

Do batteries qualify for the 0% VAT rate?

Yes. Standalone battery storage systems qualify for 0% VAT (since February 2024). This applies whether you are adding a battery to existing solar or installing a new combined system. The 0% rate is confirmed until March 2027 — meaning you save 20% on the system cost versus pre-2024 prices.
