Question 1

Who is the best solar installer in Hampshire?

Accepted Answer

Based on accreditation, install model and accountability, Solent Solar in Whiteley (Fareham) ranks first for homes in 2026: MCS-certified, a HIES member and OZEV-approved, with owner Tom and his small team carrying out every survey, installation and commissioning, 5-star rated on Google. For large commercial portfolios, Southampton's Absolar is a strong specialist alternative.

Question 2

How much do solar panels cost in Hampshire in 2026?

Accepted Answer

A typical 4 kW (10-panel) system costs £6,000–£7,500 installed at 0% VAT, or £9,000–£11,500 with a 5 kWh battery. Hampshire's above-average sunshine means roughly 3,700–4,200 kWh of generation a year from a 4 kW system, giving typical paybacks of 7–11 years depending on battery use and export tariff.

Question 3

Do I need permission from SSEN to install solar in Hampshire?

Accepted Answer

Hampshire is in SSEN's Southern licence area. Systems with an inverter up to 3.68 kW per phase are notified to SSEN after installation under G98. Larger systems — including most battery hybrids — need a G99 application approved before installation. Your installer should submit and track this; Solent Solar handles all SSEN paperwork as standard.

Question 4

Is Solar Together Hampshire cheaper than going direct to an installer?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes on headline price, but not always once specification is matched. Solar Together Hampshire (Hampshire County Council's group-buying scheme with iChoosr) auctions your install to one winning bidder — you don't choose who installs and aftercare routes through the scheme. Get the scheme's recommendation and a direct local quote, then compare hardware brands, warranty terms and who actually does the work.

Question 5

My battery is GivEnergy — is it still supported after the administration?

Accepted Answer

GivEnergy Ltd entered administration on 9 April 2026 and ceased trading, so hardware warranties are no longer honoured by GivEnergy Ltd. However, the app and monitoring platform run on GivEnergy Software Ltd, a separate group company not in administration, so existing batteries continue to work normally. Solent Solar no longer fits GivEnergy and now specialises in SigEnergy, Fox ESS and GoodWe; if you own a GivEnergy system, a maintenance visit can confirm it's healthy and plan any future support path.
